Roswell B. Carmichael of Stoneham formerly of Newton and Lakeshore Park in St. Petersburg FL, died on Fri. March 21, 2008 at the Lifecare Center of Stoneham. He was 95.
Born and raised in Newton he served with the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II and participated in the first wave of battle at Guadalcanal and also was at Nagasaki 2 weeks after the H-bomb was dropped. He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars. He worked for over 30 years for the City of Newton starting in the water department and retiring as a custodian in the school department. He had also worked at the League School in Newton. He was a longtime member of Nonantum A.L. Post 440 of Newton.
Beloved husband of the late Eleanor (Arcese) Carmichael, he is survived by his sons Russell Carmichael of New London CT, and Bruce B. Carmichael and his wife Lourdes of Melrose, his sisters Eleanor Stearns and her husband Don of Largo FL, Dorothy Scipione of St.Petersburg FL and Jean and her husband George Taylor of Sudbury, and his grandchildren of Bruce, Carol and Tracy.
Relatives and friends will gather at the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. NEWTON CORNER on Fri March 28 at 9:30 AM and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Help of Christians Church at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours will be in the funeral home on Thurs 4-8 PM. Interment will take place at the Mass national Cemetery in Bourne at a later date.
