Obituary




Lawrence P. Gorman, Sr., age 77, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn A. (Dauwer) Gorman with whom he was married to for 55 years. Born June 19, 1930 in Boston, Ma, he was the devoted son of the late Martin and Margaret (Reardon) Gorman. He was the loving brother of the late Martin J. Gorman of Braintree, the late Leonard A. Gorman of Nevada, the late John G, Gorman of South Boston and the late Cornelius V. Gorman of Quincy. Mr. Gorman served in the United States Navy and the Naval Reserve before being honorably discharged. He held several jobs in his early years, but fulfilled his dream of becoming a firefighter in the early sixties. Mr. Gorman served the Brockton Fire Department with honor and distinction until his retirement in 1989. In his retirement years, he spent nearly all his time with his beloved wife, Marilyn; He also enjoyed painting, model shipbuilding and woodworking. One of the most exciting moments of his retirement came when his beloved Red Sox won the World Series for the first time in his lifetime in 2004. He also was an avid Patriots fan and followed the team closely. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his four children Marilyn (Gorman) Healey and her husband Michael W. Healey of Mansfield, Lawrence P. Gorman Jr. and his wife Melissa L. (Ackerly) Gorman of East Bridgewater, Marie I. (Gorman) Balzotti and her husband David F. Balzotti of Duxbury and Jacqueline A. (Gorman) Coyne and her husband Michael J. Coyne of East Bridgewater. Mr. Gorman will also be dearly missed by his 11 grandchldren, Michael Healey Jr, Kerri Healey, Jennifer Roby, Kristin Gorman, Joshua Gorman, David Balzotti, Christina Balzotti, Joseph Balzotti, Brian Coyne, Mathew Coyne and Kayley Coyne. His funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman followed by a funeral mass at 10 AM in St. Joseph the Worker Church, Hanson. Burial will follow at Northville Cemetery in East Bridgewater. Visiting hours will be held Friday, March 28, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the South Shore, Box 859060, Braintree, MA 02185-9060
