Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Miss Gertrude H. Gilson, 96, passed away, March 20, 2008 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
Born in Kittery, Maine on November 29, 1911, she the daughter of the late Samuel and Lillian (Pinkham) Gilson. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of the Gloucester High School in the late 1920’s and went to work immediately.
She took pride in her accounting expertise and was a dedicated professional over her long business career. Miss Gilson was employed for over 30 years at the former LePage’s of Gloucester, Gloucester By-Products, and eventually retired from Gorton’s of Gloucester. She was an avid spectator sports fan, and especially enjoyed the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
She dedicated her life to caring and providing a home for her parents before the days of nursing and senior care facilities. In her twilight years, “Gert” was lovingly cared for by her close friends, Joan Gilson and Georganna “Joy” El Heneidy.
She is survived by her nephew, Ronald Gilson, and niece, Joyce Day April, of Dover, NH. She also leaves a grandniece, Julie Fournier, and three grandnephews, Blake Gilson, Charles and Keith April. She was predeceased by two brothers, Friend and Herbert Gilson, a sister, Julia Day, and a grandnephew, Brent Gilson.
In accordance with Miss Gilson’s longstanding wishes, there will be no visiting hours, funeral or memorial service. Her remains have been donated to Harvard Medical School. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
