Obituary

Evelyn A. (Smith) Harris 94, formerly of Whitman died Thursday March 20th after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Herbert L. Harris.

Born and raised in Whitman she was the daughter of the late Irving M. and Marion (Linnell) Smith.

Evelyn was a life long resident of Whitman and a 1931 graduate of Whitman High, where she was a member of the high school marching band. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Whitman since April 1927, and belonged to several former organizations including the Epworth Youth Group, Charity Club, Wesleyan Couples Club and the Ladies Sewing Group. In earlier years she was active in the Whitman Girl Scouts, Plymouth County Extension and several area bowling leagues.

At one time she was employed at the S.S. Kresge Store in Brockton and the Regal Shoe Company in Whitman.

For many years she and her husband enjoyed summers at their home in South Chatham and annual Florida vacations.

She was a resident of Inn at Silver Lake of Kingston for the past two years.

She is survived by her son Richard H. Harris and his wife Linda of East Bridgewater, her grandchildren Steven Harris and his wife Jessica of Halifax, and Julie A. Machnik and her husband Michael of Fitchburg, her great granddaughter Skylar Linnell Harris of Halifax, and her sister Arlene Ladouceur of Whitman.

Her funeral services will be held Thursday March 27th @ 10 AM Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Avon Cemetery, Avon. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday March 26th from 4-7 PM.
