Honorable Edward O. Boucher Esquire, 70, of Newton Ave. died peacefully Wednesday in his beloved home. Mr. Boucher was born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Raphael E. and Agnes (Gailloux) Boucher.
Mr. Boucher had a long and distinguished career in public service. He was elected to the General Assembly in 1963, at the age of 25, and he was the first Republican to represent Woonsocket in the House since 1940. He was chairman of the Woonsocket School Committee for two years from 1987 -1991and 1999-2003. Mr. Boucher was a state representative, a bail commissioner for the Woonsocket Police Department, chairman of his local political party and worked for the attorney general’s division in 1969 and from 1985-1987. He was also an attorney in private practice and a Justice of the Peace. Mr. Boucher also served in the US Marine Corps.
He will always be remembered by his strong spirit and sense of humor and his favorite mottos, “We’re getting there” and “Keep the faith”.
Mr. Boucher is survived by two sons Edward M. Boucher of Woonsocket, and Darrin M. Boucher of Pascoag, two daughters Lisa E. Forestal of Mapleville, and Sandra Oppenheim of Woonsocket, a brother Rudolph of Woonsocket, two sisters Agnes Daniel of N. Providence, and Constance Boucher of Coventry, and three grandchildren Kirstin, Corey, and Hunter. Mr. Boucher was also the brother of the late Lucille Bilodeau. He was also a caring foster father to over twenty children.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:00 am. from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. in St. Joseph’s Church, Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial will be held in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham. Visiting hours are Tuesday 4-8 pm.
