TEWKSBURY - John H. Parker Jr., age 69, a pioneer in business applications for computers, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, March 20, at his Tewksbury home from complications of recent surgery.
He was born in Boston, September 16, 1938, and was raised by his mother, the late Cecelia (Kitterick) Parker. He had lived in the greater Boston area most of his life, most recently Quincy, before moving to Tewksbury a year ago.
He was among the pioneers in computers and their applications in business. He began his career in the Boston Welfare Office as a programer and computer operator. He went on to work for the Commomwealth of Massachusetts, for several divisions as a specialist in computer services. He retired from Baycove Human Services, Andrew House, on Long Island in Boston, as the director of Admissions.
In his earlier years, he was a member of the St. William's Men's Club in Tewksbury, and served as a counter for the annual church Christmas Fair.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert J. Parker Sr., and his wife Ellen of Tewksbury; his nieces and nephews, Lisa Desrochers and her husband Ken of Clinton, Robert J. Parker Jr. and Jennifer Driscoll of Salem, NH, John T. Parker and his wife Mary of North Chelmsford; three cousins, Catherine Hopkins of Franklin, Patricia Banks of Roslindale, and Edward Kitterick of So. Boston; and numerous friends throughout the greater Boston area.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, March 26, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury. Memorials to the American Diabetes Assoc., P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA, 22312, will be appreciated.
