Obituary

John J. Sullivan, 85, of New Bedford died Wednesday March 19, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Helen (O'Malley) Sullivan.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John J. and Mary (Doyle) Sullivan, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

He was a lifelong communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

Mr. Sullivan was formerly employed as a custodian for the New Bedford Public School Department for 36 years until his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 166.

Survivors include two children, Timothy V. Sullivan of New Bedford and Sr. Eileen Mary Sullivan, R.S.M. of Chicago.

He was the father of the late John P. Sullivan, and brother of the late Mary E. Groblicki, Josephine, Irene, Margaret, Theresa, Kathleen, and Timothy Sullivan.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
