WESTFORD - Robert Buchan, age 86, a retired Auditor for the Teasury Department, died March 18, at Saint's Medical center in Lowell, after a brief illness.
He was born in Fall River, MA, on March 16, 1922, a son of the late Margaret (Mitchell) and Thomas Buchan. He graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River, in June 1940.
He enlisted into the U.S. Army Signal Corps, and served in European Operation until his Honorable Diacharge in 1945. His duty brought him to Iceland, Scotland, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He participaed in the Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland campaignes.
He worked as an Auditor for the Internal Revenue Service branch of the U.S. Treasury.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Rai Buchan of Willington, CT; a niece and her daughter, Martha Jones and Megan Jones of Willington; a nephew and his family, Thomas and Victoria Buchan and their children, Alex and Leora also from CT.
At his request, funeral services were private.
