Harold E. DiPietro, 89, of Portsmouth, NH, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 in the Portsmouth Regional Hospital. He had been a resident of Sunbridge Nursing Home in Portsmouth for the past five years. Born on January 6, 1919 to Lillian (MacDonald) and Michael DiPietro, he was a long time resident of Derry, NH. Harold and his father owned a construction company and a gas station on Rt. 28. Harold was also a selectman in Derry for many years. Although born in Boston, MA, he was educated at Pinkerton Academy in Derry. During WWII, he served in the Army Air Corps, 342 Bomb Squadron in England, Algeria, and Tunisia. Later, he was a member of the US Thoroughbred Racing Association and derived much pleasure training and racing horses at Rockingham Park.
He will be sadly missed by his long time companion, Loretta Hoole, and his devoted friends, Walter Liff of New Castle, NH and Wayne Paris of Douglas, WY. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Louis.
There are no calling hours. Private graveside services will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
