Obituary

GLOUCESTER: E. Barbara (Newman) White, 90, of 1 White’s Mountain Road, died Sunday evening, March 16, 2008 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Peter J. White, who died in July of 2003.
Born in Gloucester on December 5, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Seth and Ethel L. (Brown) Newman. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and attended Gloucester public schools.
An avid birdwatcher, Mrs. White was a former member of the Massachusetts Audubon Society. She also enjoyed reading, listening to music, and family reunions.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carole M. Secrest of Gloucester, Jeanne S. and Gerald Ganley of Burlington, Cynthia L. and Philip Poulsen of Port Hueneme, CA, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jack D. White, David A. and Anita (Smith) White all of Gloucester, 19 grandchildren, William and Christopher Secrest, Kelly Linehan, Emilyann Gartrell, Alexandra and Peter White, Allison Keanneally, Michael and Gregg Ganley, Philip, Jason and Michelle Poulsen, Shane and Patrick Halloran, Wensday Stilner, April Halloran, Brian Morrell, Davya and Kirsten White, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister, Jeanette Hubbard of Gloucester, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Donald Newman of Essex, Eugene and Janice Newman of Gloucester. She was also predeceased by her son, Peter J. White, Jr., and daughter, Loretta J. Halloran.
A liturgy of Christian burial will be held in St. John’s Episcopal Church on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 48 Middle St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery.
