J.U. Bernard "Bernie" Landreville, 82, of New Bedford died February 14, 2003 at Alden Court Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.
He was the husband of Rita A. (Blais) Landreville, to whom he was married for 56 years, and son of the late Ulric and Olive (Trahan) Landreville.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the St. Vincent dePaul Society and served on the parish council. Mr. Landreville was also a recipient of the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River.
He was formerly employed as a union carpenter foreman for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Landreville served in the U.S. Army During World War II with the 417th Infantry Regiment of the 76th Infantry Division, participating in the battles and campaigns of the Rhineland, Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge and Central Europe. He was a recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon, American Theater Campaign ribbon, Sharpshooter Rifle Badge, Combat infantry badge, Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal.
He was a former member of the Sharpshooters Drum & Bugle Corps.
Mr. Landreville enjoyed painting pictures and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Raymond Landreville, and his fiancée Robin Loomis, of West Hartford, Conn., and Norman Landreville, and his wife Nancy, of New Bedford; a daughter, Susan Goulet, and her husband Lawrence, of Inverness, Fla.; a sister, Gertrude Landreville of New Bedford; and 6 grandchildren, John and Julie of Connecticut, Jaymeson of New Bedford, Heather of Fall River, and Chad and Scott Goulet of Florida.
