Annie Young Carver, 88, of Fitzgerald died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Graveside services will be held 2 P.M., Sunday, March 16, in the Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery in Ben Hill County with the Rev. Harris Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Carver was born July 26, 1919 in Irwin County, Georgia to the late William and Louise Troup Young. She operated her farm, before moving to Albany in 1960, where she worked at Belk’s Dept. Store and J.C. Penney’s Dept. Store. She lived in Americus for eight years, working in Auto Sales before moving back to Fitzgerald. Mrs. Carver was a member of the Fitzgerald First Baptist Church and the Genesis Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Carver is survived by one son: William L. “Bill” Carver of Albany; two granddaughters: Michelle Moody of Albany and Susan Carter of Americus; four great-grandchildren: Chasity, Allison, Brandon and Jordan; two brothers: Tommy (Jean Carolyn) Young of Osierfield, and J.C. (Minnie) Young of Daytona Beach, Florida; two sisters: Rose (J.R.) Ellis and Polly (Dean) McSwain all of Fitzgerald; three sisters-in-law: Mary L.Young and Mary V. Young both of Osierfield and Lois Young of Brentwood, Tennessee as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: E.L. Carver; her parents and three brothers: W. D. Young, Leonard Young, and Reason Young.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and instead, memorials may be sent to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tribute Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942
