Obituary

WEBSTER – Albert J. Horan, 85, of 1 West Hollow Lane, died Thursday, March 13, at home surrounded by his family.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Claire M. (Brisbois) Horan; 3 sons, Albert B. Horan and his wife Susan of Webster, Brian A. Horan and his wife Renee of Oxford, and Neil A. Horan of Dudley; a daughter, Colleen C. Emery and her husband Bruce of Plymouth; 2 sisters, Mary Rohr of Webster and Nancy Presutti of Southbridge; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gail F. Horan; his son, Sean P. Horan; and by 4 brothers, John, Paul, James and Arthur Horan.

He was born and raised in Fitchburg, a son of Paul F. and Mary C. (O’Hara) Horan. He moved to Webster in 1935. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1941 and took classes at Peterson’s School of Engineering in Boston.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in France and Germany.

Mr. Horan was a first class engineer for Boston Edison Company for many years before retiring in 1997. He also taught power engineering at Peterson’s School of Engineering on a part-time basis. He was a member of Saint Louis Church.

The funeral will be held Monday, March 17, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will provide the military honors. A calling period will be from 8:15 to 9:15 AM Monday, March 17, in the funeral home.
