BOWEN Dorothy Elizabeth (Burke) In Jamaica Plain, March 13, 2008, a resident of Springhouse and formerly of South Dennis and Belmont. She was born on June 5, 1917, the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Elizabeth (Moulton) Burke of Cambridge. Mrs. Bowen attended Cambridge Public Schools and graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1934. She was employed by the New England Telephone Company for more than 30 years beginning as an operator and going on to hold positions in the areas of customer service, training and management. On September 21, 1940, she married Stephen P. Bowen of Belmont. An abiding faith in God and mutual respect were the foundation of their 46 year marriage, during which they raised a family, carried out their respective professional responsibilities and were volunteers for numerous community, church and political activities. Mrs. Bowen is survived by her children Stephen P. Bowen III of Medfield, The Honorable Elizabeth Bowen Donovan, Justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court, of Jamaica Plain, John J. Bowen of Boston and Dee Smith of Brewster. She is also survived by her grandchildren Brian M. White of Brewster, Carolyn J. White of Roslindale, Christopher J. White of West Roxbury, Michael J. Smith of East Dennis and Julie E. Ryan of Milton and her great granchildren Dillion, Owen and Jason White of Brewster. In addition to her husband Mrs. Bowen was predeceased by her daughter Martha J. White her sister Mary A. Murphy and her brother Joseph F. Burke. In recent years, with courage, dignity and grace which were the essence of her humanity. Mrs. Bowen faced diminishing cognitive skills. She found tremendous joy being with her family and was a wonderful role model for all who were privileged to have known her. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY on Monday March 17th. at 10:30am. followed by a Funeral Mass in the Holy Name Church at 11:30am. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7pm. Relatives and friends invited. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the Stephen P. and Dorothy E.
