Obituary

HAVERHILL—Raymond W. McNamara, 84 years old, a resident of Haverhill for 30 years, died Wednesday afternoon, March 12th, at Wingate of Haverhill after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

He was born and raised by his extended family in Lowell. He resided in Dracut for over a decade with his former wife Helen (Guziejka) McNamara, before moving to Haverhill.

After attending schools in Lowell, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. Upon his discharge, he received his Bachelors Degree in Business from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He re-entered military service in 1952, joining the Air Force for the Korean Conflict, where he attained the rank of Captain serving as a Loadmaster for C-124 planes.

Mr. McNamara’s career included a position at National Cash Register; he was the owner of Belvidere Real Estate and retired from Western Electric/AT&T, in 1989. He had a love of sailing and was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and enjoyed dining and dancing.

Surviving him are a son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Gregory McNamara, Esq., and Jill Geoffroy McNamara; a daughter and son-in-law: Gail McNamara Twining and Joseph M. Salerno; three grandchildren: Kelly L. McNamara, Kristen E. Twining, and Shaun J. Salerno; a great-granddaughter: Autumn Bella Femino-McNamara. He is also survived by his beloved partner of thirty years: Constance Sheehan.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 PM on Sunday, March 16th at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38), Lowell. His funeral service to be held on Monday, March 17th at 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
