Richard A. “Dick” Morse, 72, of Mansfield and Mashpee died on Thursday March 13, 2008 at Morton Hospital in Taunton following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Susan M. (Levesque) St Laurent Morse to whom he was wed to on August 18, 1991.
Born in Boston, MA on January 2, 1936 he was a son of the late Carl F. and Virginia (Sherman) Morse, Sr.
He grew up in Mansfield, was educated in Mansfield public schools and was a 1954 graduate of Mansfield High School. He went on to graduate and was an Alumni of Northeastern University in Boston.
Mr. Morse was the former co-founder and owner of Southeast Computer Systems, Inc. of Taunton, and retired in 1998. He had formerly been employed as a Manager of the former Compo Chemical Co. in Mansfield.
A Past Master of St. James Lodge AF & AM in Mansfield, he was also a Charter member of the Mansfield Conservation Trust and was a former member of the Mansfield Conservation Commission.
Dick especially enjoyed working with computers, fishing, cooking, tomato season and gardening, and quiet time spent in Mashpee. He was an avid sports fan and loyal follower of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
In addition to his wife he was the father of Richard A. Morse, II, Michael E. Morse and Vicki E. Morse all of Jacksonville, Florida, he was the stepfather of Alison M. St Laurent of Middleboro and Stacy M. St Laurent of Mansfield, he was the brother of the late Carl F. Morse, Jr., also surviving are several grandchildren, 1 great grandson and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday March 17th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
Masonic services will be held on Monday evening at 8:00 P.M. at the conclusion of visiting hours at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers Dick’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Morton Hospital Intensive Care Unit, 88 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780.
