Obituary

Howard A. Skoglund, 75, of 44 Old Faith Road, Shrewsbury and 2154 Bramblewood Drive North, Clearwater, Florida died Tuesday, February 11, in his home after a short illness. He leaves his wife of 49 years, J. Carolyn (Gullberg) Skoglund; a son Kurt H. Skoglund of Farragut, TN; and a daughter Lisa C. Betrovski of Oxford, a brother, Earl Skoglund, of Worcester, 4 sisters, Natalie Sinkus, of Worcester; Christine Cocaine, of Worcester; Shirley Cariglia, of Shrewsbury; and Betty Lou Stratford, of Grafton; 3 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers--Edward, Chester, and Herbert--predeceased him.

Mr.Skoglund was born in Worcester, son of Herbert G. and Tillie (Mard) Skoglund and resided in this area all his life.He was a US Navy veteran of WW2 and a US Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Skoglund was a Police Officer for the Town of Shrewsbury for 23 years, retiring in 1982. While in Florida for the winters, he worked for the Philadelphia Phillies Spring Training Camp, Jack Russell Stadium for 12 years.He was a member of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church of Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury Police Association, Massachusetts Police Association, International Brotherhood Police Association--of which he was a former Steward. He was also a member of Matthew John Whittal Lodge of Masons, The Order of Eastern Star, The Friends of Shrewsbury Senior Citizens, The Lake Quinsigamond Association, and American Legion Post 373.Mr. Skoglund was a funeral director’s assistant and a chauffeur for Joey’s Limousine Service. He was an ardent hunter and loved to travel.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday( Feb.15) 11:00 am in Mount Olivet Lutheran Church 34 Prospect Street, Shrewsbury. Private burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Calling Hours will be Friday 5-8 pm (Feb.14) in Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street Worcester.
