Thomas Arthur Bragdon Sr., “Tom”, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2003 in Mystic, Ct.
Tom was born in Evanston, Ill., in 1914 to George Hurd Bragdon, Esq. And Alice Lucas Paterson Bragdon, formerly of Middletown, Ct. Tom would have been 89 years old on March 7th. He was the last surviving brother of seven children: george, Elbridge, and Marshall Bragdon, and Alice B. Taylor, Marion B. Gunn, and John Bragdon.
Tom graduated from Middletown High School in 1931 and from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering in 1936. He married a beautiful girl, “with naturally curly hair” also of Middletown.
Tom was employed as an aeronautical engineer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and United Technologies Corporation for 39 years. Retired in 1978 from UTC, he was then employed by the Department of Energy of the State of Connecticut for 11 years. Residing in Glastonbury since 1950, Tom was a good and loving husband and father who enjoyed his family and work. He supported his family and associates with kindness and his presence always meant “quick witted-punning” which endeared him to many.
Surviving Tom are: his wife of 65years this April, Marjorie M.K. Bragdon, son, Thomas Arthur Bragdon Jr. and his wife Sandra Lee Loveland; son Donald Christopher Paterson, daughter Ann Louise Bragdon and her husband, Karim A. Alkadhi, grandchildren, Isam K. Alkadhi, Rheim B. Alkadhi, great-grandchildren, Rusol Karralli and Sura Karralli, daughters of Selwa Alkadhi and Gazwan Karralli.
For the last five years, Tom resided and received wonderful care at the Mystic Manor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sierra Club.
All Services are private for the family.Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Glastonbury. There are no visiting hours.
