Salem: Elliott M. ‘Sonny’ Gray age 67 of Salem and a former resident of Beverly, died Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Lynn Union Hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was the husband of Doris P. Madore.
Born and raised in Beverly he was the son of the late Elliott and Bernice (Cullen) Gray. A graduate of Beverly High, he served with the National Guard while working at Flynn Tan in Salem. Sonny’s principle employment was for General Electric in Lynn where he was an aircraft inspector until his retirement in 2002. As a youth he was a member of the ‘Park Street Gang’ of Beverly. He later joined the Knights of Columbus Salem Council, the P.L.A.V. of Salem and the Franco American Club of Beverly. Sonny was an avid sports fan.
In addition to his wife Doris, he is survived by a son, Scott W. Gray and his fiancée Susan Eon both of Salem, a brother Richard Gray and his wife Beverly of Beverly, a sister, Patricia MaCrae and her husband Steve of Beverly, a grandson, Hunter Mahoney of Lynnfield, his former wife Hattie Sholds of Beverly and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 11:30 am at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem. Visiting hours: Tuesday 4 to 8 pm. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Shore Cancer Center, 17 Centennial Dr., Peabody, MA 01960.
