Obituary

Marshall M. Sawyer, Jr., 78, of Mattapoisett died March 7, 2008 unexpectedly.
He was the husband of the late Barbara J. (Langlois) Sawyer.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Marshall and Marion (Kelley) Sawyer, he was raised in Fairhaven and lived in Mattapoisett most of his life.
Mr. Sawyer was formerly employed as a History teacher at Wareham High School before his 30 years at Dighton-Rehoboth High School retiring as principal.
He was a member and past president of the M.I.A.A. and played semi-pro football with the Fairhaven Varsity Club in his youth.
Mr. Sawyer served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge and the United Nations Service Medal.
Survivors include his loving children, Steve Sawyer of Quincy, Marion Sawyer-Tammaro, and her husband Leonard, of Raynham, Greg Sawyer, and his wife Deborah, of Mattapoisett, Paula Moore, and her husband Norwood, of Fairhaven and Christopher Penler of New York; a brother, Walter Sawyer, and his wife Raye, of Rochester; 2 grandchildren, Jessica Moore and Alex Moore.
He was the father of the late Bruce Sawyer.
His private Funeral Service was held Monday, March 10th in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett. Burial followed in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
