Dorothy L. (Healey) Ray 81, died Saturday March 8th after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Robert F. Ray, Jr.
Born and raised in Dorchester she was the daughter of the late Philip and Elizabeth (Hogan) Healey. She attended Dorchester schools and was a graduate of Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Dorchester. Later residing in Quincy where she remained before moving to Whitman in 1989.
She graduated from St. Margaret’s School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and worked at St. Margaret’s Hospital, where for five years she was in charge of the nursery there.
She was talented cake decorator and taught cake decorating at the Quincy Vo-Tech.
She was a member of the Holy Ghost Parish in Whitman.
She enjoyed camping and traveling, but she especially loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters; Dorothy Bettuchi and Karen Wills both of Whitman, Linda Clifford of Quincy and Elizabeth Burke of Abington, her sister; Eleanor Hoffman of FL, her seven grandchildren; Amanda & William Bettuchi, Richard Wills, Brendan & Matthew Clifford, and Shauna & Haley Burke and several nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Christopher Wills and sister of the late Sister Mary Healey.
Her funeral will be held Thursday March 13th at 9:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed a funeral mass at 10 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday March 12th from 4-8 PM.
