Roberta H. (Chapman) Cullen, of High Street, Westerly, RI formerly of Arlington Acres, Stonington, passed away Friday afternoon at Golden Years Retirement Home in Westerly. She was 99 years old and was to have celebrated her 100th birthday in August.
Mrs. Cullen was born in New London on August 10, 1908 the daughter of Charles W.E. Chapman and LeMay Maude Smith Chapman.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a telephone operator at Newport Telephone Company.
Mrs. Cullen was married to William A. Cullen in Newport, RI on July 4, 1941. Mr. Cullen died in 1981.
A former resident of Stonington, she was a member of United Church of Stonington and the church’s Women’s Guild.
Mrs. Cullen is survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Chapman of West Mystic and a niece. She was predeceased by brothers, Clarence and Dudley Chapman.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be conducted at Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London on Thursday at 1pm. The Rev. Valerie King of the United Church of Stonington, will officiate. There are no visiting hours.
