William DeBarros, 82, of New Bedford died Tuesday December 18, 2001 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Grace (Barrett) DeBarros,and son of the late Carl and Mildred (Saxon) DeBarros.
He was born in New Bedford and lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. DeBarros was formerly employed as a carpenter and contractor. He had also been a professional boxer.
He was a founding member of the Young Cape Verdean Athletic Club.
Survivors include 7 sons, Kenneth DeBarros, Robert DeBarros, Lloyd DeBarros, Ronald DeBarros, Carl DeBarros, William "Funna" DeBarros, and Timothy DeBarros, all of New Bedford; 3 daughters, Tiny Babbitt of Boston, Beverly Fields and Melody Rose, both of New Bedford; a brother, Floyd DeBarros of Springfield; a sister, Anna Tidwell of New Jersey; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gordon DeBarros, Nelson DeBarros, and Russell DeBarros.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday December 22, 2001 at 9 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday evening 6-9 PM.
