Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Dorothy A. (Carroll) Souza, 80, of 5 Myrtle Square died early Monday morning, March 3, 2008 following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Paul R. Souza, who died in April of 2006. They had shared fifty-eight years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on February 22, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Daniel F. and Margaret Helena (Corcoran) Souza. She was a graduate of the St. Ann High School class of 1946. Dottie married her one and only love, Paul, on November 14, 1948.
She resided in Gloucester, working at New England Bell until moving to Evanston, IL in 1950. She worked for Physicians & Surgeons Answering Service until returning to Gloucester in 1978, where she took a job at Addison Gilbert Hospital as the evening switchboard operator until her retirement in 2001. She loved every minute of it.
Dottie loved going to Niles Beach in the summer with all her friends. She enjoyed visiting her son and his family in Chicago, but most of all she loved spending time with, taking pictures of, and showing off her grandchildren. Dottie’s motto was, “If I’d known grandchildren were so much fun, I would have had them first!”
She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Souza and Sandy Larsen-Souza of Billerica, Richard Souza and Cindy Geary of Gloucester, Michael and Mary Souza of East Windsor, NJ, Robert and Linda Souza of Arlington Heights, IL, David and Diane Souza of Gloucester, ten grandchildren, Patrick, Sean, Brian, Samantha, Robert, David, Martine, Russell and Alex Souza and Jayson Temaner, a great-grandson, Alex Temaner, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Irene “Rene” and Bob Geary of Gloucester and June St. Jacques of Rowley, her sister-in-law and her longtime companion, Norma Pimentel and John Matheson of Gloucester, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 8th, in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours.
