Obituary

J. Omer Mathurin,95, of Laurel Court, a retired conductor for the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad before retiring in 1990, died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Cherry Hill Manor.
Born in Putnam, CT he was a son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Latour) Mathurin.
He had been a resident of Smithfield since 1990, and had previously lived in Putnam CT.
He had been a Supernumary Policeman in Putnam, CT and a groundskeeper at the Marianapolis School in Thompson, CT.
He is survived by his two sons, Edward O. Mathurin Sr. of Smithfield, Jean H. Mathurin of Newtown CT., and his daughter, Lucille Van Sickle, of Kingston NY, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was the last surviving sibling of four sisters and one brother.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Saturday, March 8 at 10:30 am in Saint Philip’s Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Karen Lee Mathurin Trust Fund, c/o Janney Montgomery Scott , 60 State St, 35th Floor, Boston, MA 02109.
