John F. Drury,82 of Tarklin Road, Chepachet, died Thursday, at Pinegrove Health Center, Pascoag. He was the husband of Priscilla (Graichen) Drury.
Born in Providence, a son of the late John F. and Bessie (Eldridge) Drury. He had lived in Chepachet for 40 years previously living in Scituate.
Mr. Drury had been a WWII veteran of the USMC, PFC, 5th War Dog Platoon. He had been Superintendent of Schools with the Woonsocket School system retiring in 1989. He had also served as Superintendent in the Burrillville School system. He had graduated from RI College in 1948 and received his Masters from Columbia University in 1949. He dedicated his life to the joy of teaching.
He is survived by a son, John P. Drury and his wife, Melissa of Alton, NH, a brother Allan R. Drury of Pascoag, a sister, Helen D. Keefe of Warwick and 2 grandsons, Benjamin and Daniel. He was the brother of the late Frances Crawford and Dr. William Drury.
Burial with Military honors Wednesday at 1pm in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 222 Richmond St., Suite 200, Providence, RI 02903.
