Ft. Lauderdale, FL - Vilena Sampson (White) Wood, 83, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2008. She was widow of William T. Wood.

Born in N. Westport, daughter of the late Robert A. and Vilena M. (Sampson) White, she was a member of the Pacific Union Congregational Church at the Head of Westport. She attended Westport schools and F.G. Allen Business School in Fall River. She was employed at B.M.C. Durfee Trust Bank in Fall River and also Sears Roebuck & Co. Credit Office for 21 years in New Bedford and N. Dartmouth when she married, prior to moving to Ft. Lauderdale in 1972. Mrs. Wood was a direct descendant of Mayflower passenger Henry Sampson, on her maternal side. Her great grandmother, daughter of Princess Evening Star, was a full blooded Indian of the Narragansett, RI Tribe. Mrs. Wood and her mother kept in close contact with all living descendants. Mrs. Wood, as a hobby, under the pen name of Holly Roberta Wood, wrote children’s animal stories in book form of which she had many readers. She also wrote poetry.

Mrs. Wood leaves grandchildren and relatives in Westport, Cape Cod and Fall River.

She was mother of the late Robert G. White.

Graveside service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Maple Grove Cemetery, Westport at 11:00 A.M.
