Obituary

Ann Coe Horne, 90, passed away on March 1st, at the Norwell Knoll Nursing Home after five years of failing health.
Born in Cohasset, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Edward H. Schott and Mabel (Dorus) Schott. She was the former wife of the late George B. Horne of Hamilton, MA and North Hampton, NH; Herbert H. Coe of Boston and Palm Beach Florida, and Hayward H. Sweet of Attleboro.
Ann was the mother of the late Curtis W. Coe, who passed in 1966, Cynthia W. Coe, and her husband, Charles Poor of Hingham; Grandmother of Dr. Sarah E. Irving and her husband David A. Irving of Lincoln, Maine and Holly R. Levchik and her husband Michael S. Levchik of Golden CO; great-grandmother of Samuel Holbrook Irving, Elliot Benjamin Irving, Liam Curtis Levchik and Wesley Scott Levchik.
Ann attended Thayer Academy and Miss Sacker’s School for Young Ladies in Boston where she studied painting and interior design. As a young woman, she traveled extensively, was active in the Junior League of Boston and the Women’s City Club.
Together with her husband, architect Herbert H. Coe, she helped to found the Beacon Hill Association in Boston and institute a beautification program which included the antique lampposts that still grace the Hill today. In later years, she authored an historic novel entitled Refuge, based on ancestors in her husband, Herbert Coe’s family. Ann retired to Palm Beach Florida where she was involved in a number of programs in the Arts. Following the death of her husband, Herbert, she married George Horne of Hamilton and North Hampton, NH.
Arrangements have been made by the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel of Hingham. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, March 11th at St. John the Evangelist Church, 172 Main Street, Hingham.
Very special thanks go out to the extremely caring and dedicated staff of the Norwell Knoll Nursing Home for the truly remarkable care that they gave to Ann in her final years.
