Obituary

Sister M. Pauline (Dora) Chabot, 94, a Sister of Mercy for 68 years, died Friday, February 29, 2008, after a long illness. A native of Keene, N.H., she was the daughter of William and Clara (Gauthier) Chabot.
Sister Pauline received her B.S. degree in science and business from Mt. St. Mary College in Hooksett, N.H., and her M.S. in education and business from Plymouth State College, Plymouth, N.H.
For 21 years Sister Pauline taught at St. Ann High School in Gloucester, Mass. In 1963, she went to Cartago, Colombia, in the first group of missioners to go to South America with the Diocese of Manchester’s Manchester Mission. Not only did she teach and serve as principal of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Cartago, but she also worked with teachers and gave instruction to parents.
After returning to the United States in 1973, Sister Pauline served in the Spanish-speaking Apostolate of the Diocese of Manchester. She remained in that work until1981, when she went to Sacred Heart Parish in Marlborough, N.H. to engage in parish outreach ministry. She retired in 1993.
In 1966, Sister Pauline was awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (“For Church and Pontiff”) medal from Pope Paul VI. In 1992, she was co-recipient of the Marlborough (N.H.) Interfaith Humanitarian Award given annually to persons who exhibit interfaith understanding and/or humanitarian concern.
Family members include two brothers: Edmund Chabot Sr. and William Chabot Jr., both of Keene, N.H., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Chabot, and a brother, Francis.
Friends may call at the Warde Health Center, 21 Searles Road, Windham, N.H. from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, March 3. A prayer service will be held Monday at 6 p.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel at the Warde Health Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held At 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4 in the chapel. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH.
