Salem: Richard J. Martineau, 62, son of the late Henry and Irene (Marquis) Martineau died Thursday, February 28, 2008 after a brief bout with cancer.
Born in Salem, MA on August 23, 1945, Richard, best known as Ric to his numerous friends, became well known in the world of sports as a tennis professional. At the Wellesley Country Club he was Manager and Director of Tennis and Head Pro from 1985 to 2000. While working at the Lexington Racquet and Swim Club, he was Director from 1980 to 1985. His work at the Manchester Tennis Club was also as Director from 1975 to 1980 and at the Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly, he was Manager and Head Pro from 1970 to 1975.
Richard leaves his companion and best friend, Mary Catherine ‘Katie” Hoggard of Beverly, 2 daughters; Rebecca Power & her husband Bill of Boston, Aimee Cullen & her husband Lance of Los Angeles, CA, a son, Richard J. Martineau, Jr. of Lynn, Susan, mother of his children & her husband Craig Worden of Nashua, NH. He is also survived by 6 brothers; Henry Martineau, Jr. & his wife Lucille of Clifton, NJ, Fr. Laurier J. Martineau of Framingham, Maurice, Bernard & his wife Ginette, Jean-Guy & His wife Marianne, Jean-Claude & his wife Isabel all of Salem, 4 sisters; Sr. Irene Martineau, S.A.S.V. of Lowell, Jeannine Francis & her husband Arthur of Salem, Annette O’Brien of Wellesley, and Mary T. Brien & her husband Thomas of Billerica as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements: Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1- A] Salem, MA
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by his brother, Father Laurier ‘Larry’ Martineau at Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem, MA on Monday, March 3, 2008 at 11 am.
