Henry A. Hamby, 84, of Apopka, Florida died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at Arbor Village in Wildwood, Florida .
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M.Saturday, March 1, at the Paulk Funeral Chapel in Ocilla with Elder Charles Tyson officiating. Interment will follow in Brushy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Hamby was born January 1, 1924 in Clyattville, Georgia to the late Tyler W. and Elizabeth Howaton Hamby. He moved to Florida in 1956 from Lowndes County. Mr. Hamby was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a retired minister and was involved in prison and jail ministry. Mr. Hamby was a former Florida Highway Patrolman and a former mechanic for General Motors and Norman Brothers Nissan in Orlando. He was a member of Calvary Assembly Church in Winter Park, Florida.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ken & Sue Hamby of Apopka, Fl; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Kilcrease and Mary Callaghan both of Valdosta; brother in law: James W. Gray of Macon, and sister in law: Myrtice Kehl of Moultrie; several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Gray Hamby, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
