DRACUT - Rosario J. Lacourse, 90, a longtime Dracut resident, died Monday February 25th at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Rita T. (Gamache) Lacourse to whom he was married for 67 years.
He was born in Lowell on May 24, 1917, and was a son of the late Joseph and Azelie (Boucher) Lacourse. He attended the former St. Joseph Grammar School in Lowell.
Mr. Lacourse served in the United States Army during World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 24 years as a deputy sheriff by the Middlesex County Sheriff's Department at Billerica House of Correction. Earlier in life he was the owner and operator of the former City Service Gas Station in Lowell, and he had also worked in the family business, Lacourse Ice.
In his free time he enjoyed building race cars.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons Gerard "Jerry" Lacourse and his wife Denise of Hudson, NH, and Paul Lacourse and his life partner Charlotte Scott, both of Exeter, NH; two daughters Jacqueline "Jacqui" Sanford and her husband Colin of Atkinson, NH, and Priscilla Griffin and her husband John of Dracut; six grandchildren Debra Carney of Allenstown, NH, Philip Griffin and Thomas Griffin, both of Dracut, Adam Sanford and Patrick Sanford, both of Atkinson, NH, and Christian Sampson of Hudson, NH; two great grandchildren Tess and Owen Carney, of Allenstown, NH; a brother Lucien Lacourse of Tyngsboro, and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Leo, Hector, Ernest, Omer, Irene, Ernestine, Aldia, and Alice.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Thursday from 5 until 8PM. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Friday at 9 AM followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 AM at St. Rita Church in Lowell. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the VNA Hospice of Greater Lowell, PO Box 1965, Lowell, MA 01853-1965.
