TEWKSBURY: John R. Spencer, Jr., age 53, a longtime resident and benevolent member of the Tewksbury community, died Sunday, February 24, 2008 at home.
He was the husband of Gail A. (DiFoggio) Spencer.
Born in the Chelsea Naval Hospital on November 13, 1954, he was the son of the late John R. Spencer, Sr. and Mary E. (Scherban) Spencer.
He was raised in the Dorchester district of Boston until he became a resident of Tewksbury in 1967.
Mr. Spencer attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School in 1973.
He was employed as a material handler by the Atlantic Gelatin Company of Woburn for over 25 years until his retirement in 2003.
Mr. Spencer was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Post # 2070 and the Tewksbury Police Auxiliary.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Paul J. Spencer of Dracut and John M. Spencer of Lowell; two daughters, Brooke M. and Bridget A. Spencer both of Lowell; one granddaughter, Deanna E. Spencer; one brother, Steven M. Spencer of Tewksbury; five sisters, Diane M. McLean and her husband John of Lowell, Janet A. Spencer of Long Beach, CA, Mary Beth Petros and her husband Mark of Lowell, Patricia E. Humphrey of Greenville, NC, Susan M. Yandle of Dracut and Judith A. Spencer of Tewksbury; also many nieces and nephews.
At the request of the family there are No Calling Hours. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be offered Friday, February 29th, at 11:30 a.m., at St. William’s Church 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury.
