Martin H. Smith, Jr., 84, died at Brockton Hospital on Tuesday, February 26 after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Florence E. Ferzoco. Born in Charlestown he was a resident of Jamaica Plain for many years and attended Boston Schools. He was a Veteran of the Army Air Corps. While in the Army, he attended the University of Missouri and University of South Dakota. He was a resident of Stoughton since 1972. Mr. Smith worked as a Police Officer for the City of Boston for over 20 years, retiring in 1976. He was stationed at District 13 in Jamaica Plain and also was on the Motorcycle Unit. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his three sons, Martin H. Smith III (Taunton FD) of Taunton, Ronald E. Smith of Wrentham and Brian C. Smith (Stoughton PD) of West Bridgewater. He was the brother of Esther Bethoney of Stoughton and the late Eugene, Charles, Laura, and Beatrice Matlin. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, February 29 at 10 AM Visiting Hours Thursday 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
