Richard D. Fossett, 74, died Feb. 9,2003 at Lawrence and MemorialHospital, New London, of a long illness.
The oldest of 4 children, he was born Dec. 28,1928 in Damariscotta, ME to Jasper and Emily (Brown) Fossett. He graduated from Bristol High School in Pemaquid, ME and attended Northeastern University.
A Korean War Veteran, Mr Fossett served in the US Army, Nov. 51 -- Nov.53. Following his discharge he married Dorothy Blaisdell of Pemaquid,ME in 1954.
Mr. Fossett's career in the paper industry spanned over 35 years. Hestarted as a papermaker at Brown Co. in Berlin, NH; Grace Co. inArecibo, Puerto Rico; and Federal Paper Board in Versailles, CT. He wasGeneral Superintendent at Federal's Sprague mill when he retired in May1992.
Mr. Fossett was a life member of the Preston VFW Post #9452, where herecently served as Quartermaster. He was an avid gardener; enjoyedfishing, golf and especially his role as " Grandpa".
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, his daughter Jeannine; son-in-lawCharles Nash of Granby,CT; his two grandchildren Melanie and Michael.His brother Kenneth Fossett of Pemaquid, ME; his sister Judith Reed ofAtlanta, GA and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 2pm at the Ledyard Congregational Church, Rte 117, Ledyard Center.The Rev. Mobby Larson, pastor, will officate. Private burial will take placethis spring in Pemaquid, ME.
