Fall River - Louise (Suffern) Devlin, age 97 years, passed away peacefully Monday, February 25th at Adams House Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the last four years. Born, May 8, 1910, in Montclair, N.J. she was the daughter of the late Ernest S. Suffern and Georgia L. (Greene) Suffern. She was the sister of the late Helen S. DeForest, the sister of the late Edward Suffern, and the mother of the late Elizabeth Ann (Hudson) Ahearn.
She is survived by her husband, Edward W. Devlin of Fall River, her son, Robert S. Hudson and his wife Hahn Hudson of Encino, CA, and her son, James E. Hudson and his wife Janice (Brown) Hudson of Westport Point. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her long-time childhood friend, Charlotte Fitch of Westport Point.
She was a 1929 graduate of Kendall Hall School for Girls in Pride's Crossing, MA., attended New York art schools and was a 1936 graduate of Bellevue School of Nursing in New York City. She entered the Army Nurse Corps in February 1942.
In 1943 she married Lt. Col. John E. Holt, who died in England a year later. After World War II she married James F. Hudson and moved to North Abington, MA., where she raised her family until her husband’s death in 1961. Then, in 1967 she and her children moved permanently to their summer home in Westport Point. For five years she had been the resident school nurse at Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. In 1971 she married Edward W. Devlin and moved to Ottawa, Canada for several years before moving back to Westport Point, where they lived for the next twenty three years.
Mrs. Devlin loved gardening, painting and traveling abroad. She was an active member of the Westport Art Group, Westport Historical Society and a parishoner of Saint Andrew's by the Sea in Little Compton.
A Memorial Service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008 at St. Andrew’s by the Sea, Little Compton, RI at 11:00 A.M.
