Evelyn Elma Willis, 87, of Tifton died Monday, February 25, 2008, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at Old Ty Ty Primitive Baptist Church. Elder E. L. "Buck" Wood will officiate with burial to follow at Old Ty Ty Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Preston Thornhill, Trevor Thornhill, Brian Sumner, Ted Thornhill, Roger Thornhill, Mike McBrayer and Van Whittle will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Old Ty Ty Primitive Baptist Church, just prior to the service.
Ms. Willis was born on April 1, 1920 in Tift County and was the daughter of John Preston Willis and Mahala Gibbs Willis, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lennon A. Willis; three brothers, Hansel Willis, R. P. Willis, and John Henry Willis; and four sisters, Iris Joseph, Myrtice Simmons, Esta Lee Wilder and Naomi Sumner. She was a homemaker and a member of Old Ty Ty Primitive Baptist Church. She was educated in Omega Public Schools.
Ms. Willis is survived by two sisters, Volerah Blanchard of Tifton and Elna Thornhill of Tifton; one sister-in-law, Louise Patrick of Tifton; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Carl and Margaret Willis of Tifton and Virgil "Bud" and Inita Willis of Sparks; and several nieces and nephews.
