Obituary

Thomas R. Beary 83, died Thursday February 21st in Tuft’s New England Medical Center. He was the loving husband for 56 years of Lillian (Cochrane) Beary.

Born and raised in Whitman and one of twelve children, he was a son of the late James T. and Elizabeth A. (Gaucher) Beary, and a graduate of Whitman High.

Thomas was veteran of the United States Army Air Corp from 1943-1945 having served as a T Sgt. during Word War II. He was part of the 381st Bomb Group and later was a member of the Memorial Association for the 381st, having attended 29 reunions of the group. For his service in World War II he was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Air Medal and countless others. He was a member of the VFW.

He worked as an inspector for the US Government for 34 years and during this time he traveled to Vietnam during the war as a civilian inspector.

He loved golfing and bowling.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters; Deborah Ain and her husband Robert of Las Vegas, NV, Kathleen Bates and her husband Ed of Dover, DE, and Theresa Brophy and her husband Patrick of Winchester, MA. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday February 27th at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rt. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday February 26th from 4-8 PM. Donations may be made in his name to the 381st / Gen Nazarro Scholarship C/O 381st BGMA Box 380, Ft. George Station, New York, NY 10040
