Josephine T. "Jo" (O'Donnell) Carver, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Wednesday February 20, 2008 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a lengthy illness. She was 86 years old.
"Jo" was born in Boston on October 12, 1921. She grew up in Charlestown, where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. She worked for several years at Schraffts Candy Company in Charlestown as a candy packer, she then worked for First National Stores in the freezer department and finally in her later years she worked for the Intercity Homemakers in Charlestown caring for the elderly. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary-American Legion Post #26 of Charlestown, The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association and The Charlestown Garden Club.
"Jo" is the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Carver. She is the devoted sister-in-law of Evelyn Carver of Winthrop. She is the loving aunt of Ann and Marie Carver both of Winthrop and Gene Carver of Dorchester. She is the beloved cousin of Mary Giorgi and Claire DeMauro both of Florida and Marilyn Joyce and George Munroe both of Lynnfield. She is the dear friend of Paula Soucy, Esther Nazzone and Dotty Ann Bowman. She is also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews.
"Jo's" Funeral will be held on Monday February 25, 2008 at 11 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for "Jo" will be on Sunday February 24, 2008 from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
