Harney, of Plymouth, February 19th, William F. 82. Beloved husband of Janice (Gerardi) Harney of Plymouth. Father of William F. Harney Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Danvers, Michael J. Harney of Acton and Thomas E. Harney of Everett. Brother of Donald F. Harney of FL, Robert E. Mitchell of Everett and the late Eleanor F. Demboski. He also leaves 2 grandchildren, William F. Harney III and Emily Harney both of Danvers. Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late William F. and Gladys (Harrow) Harney. He graduated from Lynn English Class of 1943 and attended Mass Trade Shop School in Boston. He was an industrial designer and model builder at M.I.T. Lincoln Lab for 39 years. 3 time USA member in international model airplane competition, 1973 Model Airplane Champion (USA), 1970 Bronze medal winner World Model Airplane Championship London, England. Also a model of Howard Hughes FXII in the Delavan, IL museum. Model of Alaskan Bushplane in Anchorage, Alaska, Model of Amelia Earheart’s (Lockheed 10 E). Model of wrong way Corrigan’s plane (Curtis Robin) which both reside in the Rhinebeck Museum in Rhinebeck, NY. 36 models of Robinson Helicopters distributed throughout the world. Model builder for Robinson Helicopter Corp, did a scale model of a B-25 at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. Several models donated by MIT Lincoln Lab to SAC-Strategic Air Command Museum in Bellevue, NB. He was a member of AAHS-American Aviation Historical Society (Amelia Earhart Historian.), AMA-Academy of Model Aeronautics, member of TIGHAR- The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery and member of DESA-Destroyer Escort Sailors Assoc. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28th at 11 o’clock at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Road (Route 3A), Plymouth (Manomet). Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Burial will be private. Donations in his memory may be made to the Friends of the Plymouth Pound, P.O. Box 578, Manomet, MA 02345.
