Obituary

E. Roland “Matey” Piesco, 88 years of Easton, formerly of Ft. Myers, FL and Brockton, died February 18, 2008 after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Ruth (Christianson) Piesco. He was born in Milford, the son of the late Saverio and Isabella (Bellafatto) Piesco and later moved to Brockton where he resided until retirement. Matey graduated from Brockton High School Class of 1937, where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball.

During WWII he served in the US Navy and played baseball on the Navy team. Following his discharge he was recruited to play major league baseball. One of his proudest achievements was coaching the 1954 Brockton Post 35 Legion team to the New England Championship. Mr. Piesco was the co-founder and president of Piesco Sporting Goods, Inc. of Easton formerly of Brockton.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Piesco and her husband Gary Farina of Plymouth, Nancy Piesco and her husband Robert Putnam of North Easton; his grandchildren, Lisa Mooney, Mark Domenicucci, Gregory Piesco-Putnam and David Piesco-Putnam; and great grandchildren Daniel Mooney and Mitchell Mooney, as well as, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Ann Ottaviani, Arthur and Chuck Piesco.

Both the calling hours and funeral service will be held at the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, on Saturday, February 23. Calling hours are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a funeral service following at 1 p.m.
