Mildred Reeves Lockwood, 84, of Fitzgerald died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 4 P.M. Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. B.J. Funk, Rev. Steve Waldorf and Rev. Ed Reeves officiating. Interment will follow in Arp Cemetery, Irwin County. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Lockwood was born September 29, 1923 in Crisp County to the late Wyatt S. and Edith Fowler Reeves. She moved back to the community in 1979 from Moultrie. Mrs. Lockwood was a 1944 graduate of Georgia State College for Women with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and furthered her education at Valdosta State College. Her first teaching job was at Irwinville High School. She went on to teach in the Moultrie Public Schools and Pineland Academy in Moultrie before retiring from Irwin County Junior High School, where she was named as Teacher Of The Year in 1982-1983. Mrs. Lockwood was a member of the Garden Club in Moultrie, a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Action Life Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Ben Hill-Irwin Retired Educators.
Mrs. Lockwood is survived by her daughter, Barbara Fullen O’Quinn of the Arp Community in Irwin County; grandchildren, Shannon O’Quinn of Orlando, Sean O’Quinn of Dublin, Lauren O’Quinn of Orlando and Adam O’Quinn of Douglas; great grandchildren, Cameron Collins, Christian Zimmardo, Kirsten O’Quinn, Kaleb O’Quinn and Hayley Calpey; brothers, W.S. “Dock” (Betty Jo) Reeves of Vidalia and Rev. Ed (Romie) Reeves of the Arp Community; sister-in-law, Inez Reeves of the Arp Community as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L. Fullen who was killed in action in the Korean War, her second husband, H. Carlton Lockwood and a brother, Gene Reeves.
