Obituary

Dr. James A. Casey Jr., 81, of Malden, passed away at home on February 19th, 2008. Dr. Casey is a well known optometrist who has served patients in Malden and the surrounding communities for the past 55 years. He was born in Newburyport on September 2nd, 1926 to his parents James A. and Bridget V. (Kenney) Casey. Jim was raised and educated in Amesbury. During World War II he joined the Army and became a Staff Sgt. in the 3rd Battalion, 32nd Infantry Division serving in Okinawa. Upon returning from the war he continued his undergraduate studies at Boston College, graduating in 1950. He went on to receive a degree from the New England College of Optometry. Over the years, Dr. Casey has been active in many local organizations. From 1971 to 1975 he held the position of Police Commissioner for the City of Malden. He is a member and past president of the Malden Kiwanis Club; a former trustee at Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden; a former trustee at the Malden Savings Bank; a member of the Knights of Columbus in Malden and has been a long-time member of the Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose. He is survived by his wife Mary Lou (Collins) Casey; his children; J. William Casey and his wife Joanne of North Andover; E.M. Caysie Casey of Malden; Dr. James A. Casey, III and his wife Camilla of South Yarmouth; Veronica A. Griffin and her husband William of Middleton, NH; Sara A. Cutellis of Saugus and Leo T. Casey and his wife Kristen of Wesley Chapel, FL. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Funeral services from the A.J. Breslin & Son Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden at Medford line on Saturday February 23rd at 10 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 11 AM. Relatives & friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday February 22nd from 4-8 PM. Services will conclude with interment in Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made Malden Catholic High School, c/o the Development Office, 99 Crystal St., Malden, MA 02148.
