JAMES T. SHAUGHNESSY, JR., 63, a resident of Hanover for the past 34 years, formerly of Hingham, died peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 19th, 2008 surrounded by his children after a brief illness. Mr. Shaughnessy was born in Boston and was raised in Hingham. He was educated at Boston College High School, Hingham High School and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He was a firefighter by profession and served for 32 years with the Hingham Fire Department. He also served with the National Guard during the Vietnam years.
He was the father of Lt. Commander Kim P. Shaughnessy, U.S. Navy, of Yokosuka, Japan, Christen C. Shaughnessy of Bradenton, FL and Gregory P. Shaughnessy and his wife Kim of Malverne, NY. He was the husband of Susan P. (Conlon) Shaughnessy of Bradenton, FL. In addition, he leaves his father, James T. Shaughnessy, Sr. of Whitman and grandchildren, Rosemary Claire Lavelle and Aidan James Shaughnessy.
Also survived by his brothers; Joseph P. Shaughnessy of Weymouth and Michael B. Shaughnessy and his wife Trisha of Hanover; his sisters, Clare F. Balasco and her husband Albert and Patricia A. Noone and her husband John all of Whitman, Sara C. Wehter and her husband Richard of Hingham; his brother in law Steve Zulon of Whitman and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Claire P. (Carew) Shaughnessy and sister, Mary E. Zulon.
Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Thursday evening from 7-9 PM and Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 23rd at 9 AM at St. Mary's of the Sacred Heart, 392 Hanover St. (Rt. 139), Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Funds of the Christen C. Shaughnessy Supplemental Needs Trust, c/o Peter Maggi & Associates, 56 Bluff Rd., No. Weymouth, MA 02191.
Interment in St. Paul's Cemetery, Hingham.
