Obituary

Fall River - Marguerite V. “Peggy” (Buzzell) Martin, 79, of Little Compton passed away Sunday, February 17, 2008 at St. Anne’s Hospital after a courageous battle with a long illness. She was the widow of Philip W. Martin.

Born in Somerset, she grew up in Fall River graduating from B.M.C. Durfee High School in 1945, where she lettered in basketball prior to moving to Little Compton in 1964. Prior to retirement in 1997, she was the owner / operator of Peggy’s Beauty Salon in Little Compton. Mrs. Martin was a member of the Little Compton United Congregational Church, where she was very involved, serving as a past deacon and she as chairman of the church visiting committee at the Commons. She was a member of the Red Hats Society in Little Compton and was active in the Democratic Town Committee with her husband. An avid gardener, she also enjoyed writing books and bowling, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include 4 sons: Daniel J. Coffey of Acushnet, Ronald Coffey of Little Compton, Philip D. Martin of Little Compton and Lincoln W. Martin of Cranston; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was mother of the late Virginia A. York.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Little Compton United Congregational Church at 11:00 A.M.

Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Little Compton.
