Obituary

Gustav Tomas Collatz, a long-time resident of Needham Heights, died Saturday, February 16th, after a brief illness at Avery Manor in Needham. He was 93.
Mr. Collatz was the only son of Friedrich Collatz and Regina (Meyer) Collatz, and was born May 30, 1914, in Duluth, MN. He was a 1937 graduate of the University of Michigan, and a World War II veteran. He was a Captain in the United States Army Medical Corps, where he served as a hospital administrator.
Following the war, Gus became the principal of the G.T. Collatz Company, Inc., which served as a manufacturer’s representative for the Eaton Corporation and Cleveland Worm and Gear, among other companies until his retirement at age 65.
An avid golfer, Mr. Collatz became a member of the Wellesley Country Club in 1961, and served as the president of the club from 1971-1973. He was a parishioner of the Christ Episcopal Church, in Needham.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 62 years, Eunice (Hill) Collatz and his son, William T. “Terry”Collatz, also of Needham Heights.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church Chapel, 1132 Highland Avenue, Needham, MA at 1:00pm on Friday, February 22, 2008. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Christ Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 1132 Highland Avenue, Needham, MA 02494.
