Obituary

MYSTIC: Jean Herrington Simpson, 83, of 20 Pearl Street, Mystic, died Saturday, February 16 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Mrs. Simpson was born on November 9, 1924 in Amsterdam, NY the daughter of Raymond and Elizabeth Herrington.

She married James Donald Simpson on June 22, 1946 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.

Mrs. Simpson graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch School in Amsterdam and St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. She served in the Cadet Nurse Corps. during World War II, stationed at the Army's Woodrow Wilson General Hospital in Staunton, VA.

She was a member of the altar guild at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Mystic and several community organizations and an active volunteer. Her family, friends, home and garden gave her great pleasure.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Simpson is survived by a daughter, Krsna Kumari deir Dasa (Nee Katharine Elizabeth Simpson) of Vrindaban, India; a son, Peter C. Simpson of Lexington, KY, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild; a sister, Mildred E. Barber of Schenectady, NY; two brothers, Raymond F. Herrington of Norwich, NY and David J. Herrington of Ft. Meyer, FL, several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Eucharist will be conducted at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic on Saturday, February 23 at 11am. There are no visiting hours.

Memorial gifts in Mrs. Simpson's memory may be made to the Mystic & Noank Library or the Mystic Flag Committee.
