OLD LYME: John James Drugan III of Old Lyme, died on February 16 at the William W. Backus Hospital. His loving family surrounded John when he lost his long battle with liver cancer. John was born on August 10, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late John J. Drugan Jr. and Sara (Chimento) Drugan. He attended Pace University and graduated from Manhattan Institute of Technology in 1963. John worked for over thirty years as a Mechanical Design Supervisor at EBASCO/Raytheon E&C. John served in the U.S. Army Reserve and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
In 1963, he married Muriel (Muller) Drugan in Rockaway Beach, NY. They settled in Old Lyme in 1981 and spent their summers at their seasonal home on Highland Lake in Stoddard, NH. Besides his devoted wife of forty-four years he is survived by his son, John Drugan IV and his wife, Margaret Marie of Plymouth, MA and his daughters, Danielle Dion and her husband, Daniel of Mystic, Margaret Mary Drugan of Long Beach, CA, Christina Pilcher of Coward, SC and Gabrielle Drugan of Old Lyme; six grandchildren, John, Bethany and Benjamin Drugan, Nicholas and Drew Prunier, and Elizabeth Pilcher. John is also survived by his “brothers” Charles D’Agostino and Anthony Byrne, his wife, Eileen, and nephews, John D’Agostino, his wife, Luann, Kenneth Byrne, his wife Trish and his nieces, Patricia Cooper, her husband, Larry, and Erin Byrne, as well as many great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
His sister, Mary D’Agostino and nephew, Charles J. D’Agostino, predeceased John.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday from 7-9pm. A Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 32 E. Main St., Mystic on Wednesday at 10am. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
