ESSEX: Margaret L. (Stackhouse) Matheson, 93, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester. She was the wife of the late John H. Matheson, Sr. who died in 1983.
Born in Lynn on September 20, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Marcella (Bonin) Stackhouse. She had resided in Lynn for several years before moving to Essex in 1936.
Margaret worked for the former Matheson Messenger Service in Gloucester for over thirty years. She enjoyed baking and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia W. and Rolf Roller of Essex, a son, John H. Matheson and his companion, Norma Pimentel of Gloucester, eight grandchildren, Sharon Matheson and her husband, Stephen Frisbee of Rockport, Michael Matheson of Essex, Russell Matheson of Hoodsport, WA, Brian and his wife, Andrea Roller of Winchester, Craig and his wife, Kelly Roller of St. Simons Island, GA, Gregory Matheson and Clifford Matheson both of Peabody and Christopher and his wife, Joanne Matheson of Stratham, NH, seven great-grandchildren, Kevin, Christopher and Stephen Roller all of St. Simons Island, GA, Mark and Christopher Matheson both of Stratham, NH and Thyra and Grace Roller both of Winchester, a sister, Marion Taylor of Saugus, a daughter-in-law, Sally Matheson of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, Ronald E. Matheson, four brothers and sisters-in-law, Judson and Caroline Stackhouse, Herbert and Emily Stackhouse, Frederick and Elizabeth Stackhouse and William and Alma Stackhouse, a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Ellsworth Matheson.
Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Friends of the Council on Aging, Pickering St., Essex, MA 01929 or to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
