Samuel Bodkins, a longtime resident of Winthrop, entered into rest on February 14, 2008. He was 88 years old & the husband of the late Anita (Fistel) Bodkins.
Born in Cambridge, he was raised in East Boston. He was educated in the Boston Public Schools & a graduate of East Boston High School & Bentley College in Waltham. Mr. Bodkins enlisted in the United States Army on August 28, 1939 in Boston & served with the Hq. Btry, 241st CA (HD) regiment during WWII. He was honorably discharged on August 7, 1943 from Ft. Bliss, Texas with the rank of corporal. Mr. Bodkins was a retired accountant for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He was a member of the Masons & the Jewish War Veterans.
Survivors include his son, Leonard Bodkins of Nahant; his daughter, Gail Kellner & her husband Thomas of Winthrop; his grandchildren, Carrie, Bonnie, & the late Melanie Kellner; his sister, Ida Rubitsky of Winthrop; & his brother, Benjamin Bodkins of Newton. He was also the brother of the late Arthur Bodkins.
Mr. Bodkins funeral service will be held in the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave. (Cary Sq) CHELSEA , on Monday, February 18 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Tifereth Israel of Winthrop Cemetery, 232 Fuller St. Everett. Memorial observance will be held at the home of Gail & Thomas Kellner, Winthrop through Wednesday.
